One of the most popular events at the Timbers of Shorewood retirement community is the annual Seniors’ Senior Prom. Senior citizens from Joliet, Shorewood, Plainfield and the surrounding towns along with Timbers’ residents dance the night away at a themed prom night.
Since every prom night needs “chaperones,” juniors and seniors from local high schools and Joliet Catholic Academy
escort and dance with residents.
The evening features music, dancing, a buffet, raffles, and all the prom trimmings. The Jay Mau Orchestra provides music for ballroom dancing. At the end of the night, a king and queen are crowned.
The 2012 prom will take place on June 22 and will be Mardi Gras Theme. New Orleans at Mardi Gras time with lots of feathers, beads, etc.
Past prom themes include:
- Vegas Night - a Las Vegas themed prom with casino style gaming.
- A Tropical Summer Night – Special entertainment by the Royal Polynesian Revue (photos)
- Magic of the USO - Special entertainment by Tres Bella, Andrews Sisters impersonators
- Ballroom Magic - Special entertainment by professional ballroom dancers
- A Black and White Ball - Special entertainment by professional ballroom dancers
