Seniors’ Senior Prom: Candy Land

Ballroom Dance at Timbers of ShorewoodAll senior citizens are invited to the 16th annual Seniors’ Senior Prom titled, “Candy Land” from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2019 at The Timbers of Shorewood, 1100 N. River Rd., Shorewood. The prom is free and open to the public.

The prom features “Candy Land!” decorations, hors d’oeuvres, dancing and all the prom trimmings.  A special moment will be the crowning of the 2019 king and queen.

Live Big Band music will be provided by the Del Bergeson Orchestra. Members of the orchestra are 30+ year music professionals, each with a deep passion for music and entertaining. Several members are music instructors teaching at the university level.

Bergeson, director of the orchestra, has experience and talent. He’s performed with Pyramid as part of a Chicago style horn section, the Bill Gerald Orchestra and the Jay Mau Orchestra, with whom he played trombone and sang several of the standards by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Sammy Davis Jr.

In typical prom fashion, chaperones will be on hand making sure the night goes smoothly – only these chaperones are local teenagers. Several teens from Joliet, Plainfield, and Shorewood area high schools will serve as escorts and dance partners.

The Timbers of Shorewood’s Seniors’ Senior Prom has been an annual event for 15 consecutive years. That’s a lot of kings and queens through the years, many foxtrots and waltzes and most of all, a lot of happy dancers.

“We love to see our dance floor filled with people from the community as well as filled with our residents,” said Linda McCluskey, director of activities at The Timbers. “The residents are already talking about who will be the new king and queen of the prom.”

The Timbers of Shorewood is a rental retirement community which provides senior independent living and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Residents whose needs may change are able to stay in the same place and receive appropriate and compassionate care. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.

The public is invited, and admission is free. Please RSVP by calling 815-609-0669.
