Live Reindeer in ShorewoodSanta Claus will listen to children’s wishes and pose for photos at the 11th Annual Timbers’ holiday event, “Santa and the Timbers’ Elves,” from 1 – 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at The Timbers of Shorewood retirement community, 1100 N. River Rd.

The free event features live reindeer that flew south from the North Pole (just kidding.) The reindeer are from Summerfield Farms in Belvidere, IL.

“Santa and the Timber’s Elves” has become a favorite holiday festival for the residents and the public. Members of the Kiwanis Club of Shorewood volunteer time to ensure the event is successful.

“Families can have a wonderful Saturday afternoon,” said Kim Jackson, activities director at The Timbers. “There will be treats, surprises and animals galore, and artist Russ Schreck will be doing portraits.”

Phil Nielson is bringing his draft horses for hay rack rides, and Friendly Farms of DeKalb will provide a petting zoo filled with lots of small animals – goats, chickens, sheep, etc.

Beverages, popcorn, cookies and other refreshments will be served, and children’s games will be held.

The Timbers of Shorewood is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
