Ballroom Dance with The Del Bergeson Orchestra
In response to the growing concern about the Coronavirus (COVID-19), leadership at the Timbers of Shorewood has made the decision to prohibit the public from all activities and events. Such events will take place but are limited to residents only. We look forward to welcoming the public into Timbers events and activities again very soon.
The Del Bergeson Orchestra will provide the music for a St Patrick’s Ballroom Dance, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2020 at The Timbers of Shorewood retirement community, 1100 N. River Road. Typically the public is warmly welcome to the free event. Currently this event is limited to residents only.
Members of the orchestra are 25+ year music professionals, each with a deep passion for music and entertaining. Several members are music instructors teaching at the university level.
Del Bergeson, director of the orchestra, has experience and talent. During his school years, he was involved in directing numerous theater orchestras, and he sang as part of several vocal and swing ensemble projects. Along with playing for the Old Chicago Mall Circus Band and the Shiners Circus Band for two seasons, Bergeson played with artists Don Shire and Dave Boyer, and for 11 years, he was with Perfect Union, a ten member ensemble.
He’s performed with Pyramid as part of a Chicago style horn section, the Bill Gerald Orchestra and most recently with the Jay Mau Orchestra, with whom he played trombone and sang several of the Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Sammy Davis Jr. standards.
Vocalist Sandi Haynes has a voice that mimics the torch songs of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Peggy Lee. For the past 18 years, Haynes has been performing in the Chicagoland area with many great Chicago orchestras including the Pete Ellman Big Band and the Brass Tracks Jazz Orchestra.
“The Timbers’ ballroom dances are filled with music and contagious energy,” said Linda McCluskey, director of activities at The Timbers. “The dance is well attended by the public, and everyone has a wonderful time.”
The Timbers of Shorewood is a rental retirement community which provides senior independent living and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Residents whose needs may change are able to stay in the same place and receive appropriate and compassionate care. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
