Congresswoman Lauren Underwood of Illinois’ 14th Congressional District was the special guest at a Senior Town Hall meeting on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at the Timbers of Shorewood Senior Living Community, 1100 N River Rd, Shorewood, Illinois.

She presented topics about the work she has done in the U.S. Congress, specifically as it relates to seniors and healthcare. After her presentation, she answered questions from Timbers’ residents and staff members.

Rep. Underwood, a member of the House Appropriations, discussed the cost of living, protecting women’s rights, and supporting veterans. In addition, she is confronting the climate crisis.

Congresswoman Underwood first was sworn into Congress on January 3, 2019. She is the first woman, the first person of color, and the first millennial to represent her community in Congress.

Rep. Underwood is a registered nurse and co-founder and co-chair of the Black Maternal Health Caucus which addresses America’s Black Maternal Health crisis in Congress and advances policy solutions to improve maternal health outcomes and end disparities. Rep. Underwood is Co-Chair of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee and serves on the House Committee on Appropriations.

She is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Johns Hopkins University, and a lifelong Girl Scout Representative.

The Timbers of Shorewood Senior Living is a rental retirement community that provides senior independent living and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services.
