Denise Unland presents at the Timbers of Shorewood

Timbers of Shorewood welcomes Joliet authors after donation during pandemic

Author Holly Coop meets Timbers of Shorewood resident

Authors from the WriteOn Joliet visited the Timbers of Shorewood at an event called “Meet the Authors” on Thursday, September 29. The members of WriteOn Joliet read passages from their book, signed books, and mingled with the audience.

During the COVID pandemic, WriteOn Joliet member Denise Unland, donated 30 copies of WriteOn Joliet’s fourth anthology titled, “Write Where We Are”, to the Timbers Book Club.

“We are so grateful to Denise (Unland) for her generosity in donating copies of the book,” said Amy Odell, director of activities at the Timbers. “Meet the Authors was a wonderful time. The authors felt famous, and our residents enjoyed meeting the authors after reading their stories during the pandemic.”

“The authors were extremely nice and so generous,” said Susan Bennett, a Timbers resident. “Each author gave a short background about themselves. I really enjoyed that. I gave a copy of “Write Where We Are” to my son who’s a high school English teacher. He is always looking for ideas, and he used the book with his students.”

WriteOn Joliet members come from all over the southern suburbs. Some have self-published or have been traditionally published. Others are still exploring their writing options and interests. Regardless of the authors’ places in the writing world, WriteOn welcomes everyone looking to write, read, and grow. The club offers a safe and supportive atmosphere to its members who are invited to share their work.

“I particularly enjoyed one reading which was turned into a skit,” said Wendy Wyss, a Timbers resident. “It was like the authors had theatre backgrounds. They were so good.”
