Regional Transit Authority talks travel

walkingThe Regional Transit Authority (RTA) will present an informational seminar on travel at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, in the Lilacs Community Room at The Timbers of Shorewood, 1100 N. River Rd., Shorewood. The CTA, PACE, METRA and Ventra Card will be discussed.

The RTA is the third largest public transportation system in North America. There are more than two millions rides provided daily on a 7,200 mile route in a six-county region of approximately 8.3 million people. It was created in 1974 to provide financial assistance to existing public transit operators, but has since expanded to include acquisitions and operations of carriers as well.

Approximately 2,468 buses, 2,210 rail cards, 410 paratransit vehicles and 684 vanpool vehicles currently make up the RTA. With more than 35 years of service, the RTA has grown to become an integral part of residential and business communities throughout northeastern Illinois.

The Timbers of Shorewood is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay – a weekend, a week, a month or longer.

The event is open to the public and admission is free. For more information, call Shelly Goggins at 815-609-0669.
