Ukulele Moonshiners

musical noteThe Ukulele Moonshiners will perform at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at the Timbers of Shorewood retirement community, 1100 N. River Road. This is a free event and is open to the public.

The Ukulele Moonshiners consist of Ron, Jim, Ed and Stan. They play Kala Ukuleles, and their playlist includes favorites from Jimmy Buffett, Gene Austin, Johnny Rivers, Willie Nelson and Jason Mraz, among many others.

The ukulele is a Hawaiian interpretation of the machete which originated in the 19th century. The tone and volume varies with the size and construction of the instrument which is available in four common sizes: soprano, concert, tenor and baritone. The ukulele gained popularity throughout the United States during the 20th century.

The Timbers of Shorewood is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Residents, whose needs may change, are able to stay in the same place and receive appropriate care.
